Usher’s second show of his Past Present Future Tour at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., was full of surprises.

During his two-hour set, the R&B icon showed love to the nation’s capital by inviting a few special guests on stage with him.

Fellow R&B crooner and D.C. native Raheem DeVaughn appeared on stage to delight the sold-out crowd with “You” from his 2005 debut album, The Love Experience.

Usher, his band, and background singers remained on stage to perform the devotional ballad alongside DeVaughn. It was an unforgettable moment in the world of R&B.

The two singers have a history together. DeVaughn co-wrote Usher’s syrupy bedroom jam “Love You Gently” from his 2008 album, Here I Stand.

After DeVaughn delivered a rousing rendition of “You,” Usher brought out D.C. rapper Wale to perform their 2015 collaboration “The Matrimony” from Wale’s The Album About Nothing.

Afterward, Wale treated the audience with a performance of his iconic verse on Waka Flocka Flame’s “No Hands,” which sent the crowd into a frenzy.

The icing on the cake was when Usher brought out go-go music legend Sugar Bear of E.U. to perform the 1988 classic “Da Butt,” which appeared on the School Daze soundtrack. Usher joined Sugar Bear on the stage, where he did his best rendition of the rump-shaking dance.

Usher kicked off his Past Present Future Tour on Tuesday (Aug. 21) in D.C. While no special guests joined him on stage, a few big names were in the building, including music exec and business partner L.A. Reid and Usher’s longtime collaborators Bryan-Michael Cox and Johntá Austin.

One night two, Ari Lennox was in attendance. Usher spotted her in the VIP section from the B-stage and had DJ Mars play her No. 1 hit “Pressure.”

Usher’s Past Present Future Tour continues in Baltimore on Aug. 23 and Aug. 24 at CFG Bank Arena. He will make additional stops in Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, Brooklyn and Detroit, to name a few. The North American leg concludes Dec. 12 in Atlanta at State Farm Arena.

On March 29, 2025, Usher will kick off the U.K./Europe leg in London at The O2 Arena. He will perform seven shows there before going to Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin. He will return to London for two additional shows on May 6 and May 7 at the same venue.

In February, Usher released his ninth album, Coming Home. He dropped the project two days before his Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show performance. Coming Home debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B Albums chart.
