Sabrina Claudio has returned with her new single “Need U To Need Me” via SC Entertainment/EMPIRE.
Claudio’s signature gauzy vocals float over soft acoustic strums and gentle percussion as she seeks reassurance from her lover that he desires her.
“I wonder if I’m as essential / Or is this only momentarily? / Like hours of sleep, baby / I need you to need me,” she sings on the vulnerable track.
While this might seem like insecurity, it’s deeper than that. It’s the desire to be in love that is as vital as life itself.
“I wrote ‘Need U To Need Me’ as a fear-based admission. A romanticized translation of longing and yearning to be a necessity to the ones you love most,” says Claudio.
She continues, “While most stigmatize needing as a form of weakness, I believe admitting that needing someone or desiring to be needed is a form of strength that can potentially breed a sense of closeness and community with those you value.”
“Need U To Need Me” is accompanied by an enchanting visual that sees Claudio and her winged love interest embracing each other from the safety of a vacant building to the brink of its edge.
“Need U To Need Me,” produced by Stint (Gallant, Nao, d4vd), marks the beginning of a new era of music from Claudio. In 2023, she released Archives & Lullabies, a collection of unreleased tracks and acoustic versions of songs from her 2022 album, Based On A Feeling.
The latter project was her final release under Atlantic Records before going independent. “[It] stems from the promise I made of only making decisions based on a feeling of love and pure intentions,” Claudio explained about Based On A Feeling. “I took this idea and allowed it to guide me through the creative process of this album in every single aspect and I could not be more fulfilled with the final result.”
Since her last album, Claudio has collaborated with R&B singer Mario (“Like Her Too”), DJ and producer Austin Millz (“Inhale/Exhale”) and rapper Tyga (“No Question”).
On a songwriting tip, she worked with Beyoncé on her Grammy-winning hit “Plastic Off The Sofa,” plus Chris Brown (“Best Ever” featuring Maeta), RINI (“Haunt Me”), Tanerélle (“Let Me In,” “Mirror”) and Fana Hues (“Perfect Delusion,” “Gone Again”), among others.
