Mariah Carey knows how to celebrate her iconic eras. The Songbird Supreme treats her beloved lambs, a nickname for her fans, to Mariah Carey Live: The Mimi Sessions.
The 10-minute set, with Daniel Moore on piano, features selections from Carey’s groundbreaking 2005 album, The Emancipation of Mimi.
Donning a black body-hugging ensemble, Carey begins her performance with “Don’t Forget About Us,” the No. 1 hit that she co-wrote with Bryan-Michael Cox, Jermaine Dupri and Johntá Austin. The mesmerizing track is lifted from The Emancipation of Mimi (Ultra Platinum Edition).
After singing gems like “Circles” and “Your Girl,” Carey closes her set with her smash hit “We Belong Together.”
Carey’s intimate, stripped-down performance comes ahead of The Emancipation of Mimi (20th Anniversary Edition), which releases May 30. The expanded set will include all the tracks from the original iconic album, plus 21 bonus tracks, including the recently shared “Don’t Forget About Us (Kaytranada Remix).”
The 20th Anniversary Edition will also be issued on vinyl. The 2LP version, priced at $38.98, features all the album’s songs plus the bonus track “We Belong Together (Mimi’s Late Night Valentine’s Mix).” The 5LP version, which costs $249.98, features exclusive packaging, including a letter to her fans and photos and three bonus discs of remixes. The Emancipation of Mimi was released April 12, 2005, via Def Jam Recordings. It debuted at No. 1 with 404,000 copies sold in the first week.
The album’s flagship single, “We Belong Together,” spent 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100. The dreamy ballad scored Carey Grammys for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song at the 48th Grammy Awards. She also took home a trophy for Best R&B Album.
