Chloë and Timbaland have teamed up for their joint mixtape, Resurrection, out via Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records.
The 13-track set pairs Chloë’s exquisite vocals and razor-sharp pen with Timbaland’s signature production that smirks, knocks and grooves.
The scene-setting opener, “Talking Dirty,” sets the mood in a hazy bedroom where Chlöe leaves the door open for someone special: “Come inside / I’ve been thinking ‘bout this all night.” The production pulls a page out of Timbaland’s book with Aaliyah, a blueprint that later inspired the trapsoul era. It’s the right hook to keep the listener tuned in for the remainder of the 29-minute project.
“Main Attraction,” an irresistible standout, moves to the rhythm of Nas’ “You Owe Me.” But instead of waiting to be courted like the shorty in Ginuwine’s iconic hook, Chloë is the one shooting her shot at a piece of eye candy.
In true Chloë fashion, she ends the project on a vulnerable note. “Jittery” races across a skittish beat, while Chloë ruminates over the demise of a relationship: “Hate the way things ended, still defended your name, to save us.”
Resurrection is Chloë’s first body of work since her sophomore album, Trouble In Paradise, released in 2024. The follow-up to In Pieces included the singles “FYS” and “Boy Bye,” plus features from Anderson .Paak, Ty Dolla $ign, YG Marley, Jeremih and her sister Halle.
“This project is truly about writing away my troubles in paradise,” Chloe said of the latter album. “The water and the brewing storm symbolize my emotions and how it changes like the weather. I wanted this project to feel fun, and even though there are ups and downs, it’s a fun, wild ride like a summer fling: unpredictable, exciting, and new.”
Timbaland is no stranger to working with the newer generation of R&B talent. In 2021, he teamed with Justine Skye on her album Space + Time. Beyond that, the legendary producer is known for being instrumental in the career-defining works of artists such as Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, Ginuwine, Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado, among many others.
Up next, Chloë will perform at Baltimore’s African-American Heritage Festival, also known as AFRAM, on Saturday (June 20). The lineup also includes Normani, SWV and The Lox.
She will also star in Peacock’s new original psychological thriller Strung, opposite Lynn Whitfield, Lucien Laviscount and Coco Jones. The Malcolm D. Lee-produced film premieres June 26.
