Beyoncé continues to master the element of surprise. Without warning, the music icon has released a new song, “Morning Dew (Donk),” via Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records.
Written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and DIXSON, the sultry track is not only a special gift to her fans but also marks the launch of a 60-day countdown to the re-issue of her sophomore album, B’Day.
According to a press release, “Morning Dew” will be included on the 20th anniversary edition of B’Day, which drops on her birthday (Sept. 4). The song arrives with a lyric video featuring repurposed footage directed by her frequent collaborator, Cliff Watts, who also photographed Beyoncé’s historic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover. (Bey made history as the first non-model to grace the annual issue’s cover in 2007.)
“Morning Dew” is Beyoncé’s first musical release since 2024’s Cowboy Carter. The second installment of her album trilogy won Album of the Year at the 67th Grammy Awards in 2025.
Released Sept. 5, 2006, B’Day debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 541,000 copies in the first week. The album is home to some of her most iconic material, including “Irreplaceable,” “Deja Vu” and “Upgrade U,” both featuring her now-husband JAŸ-Z, as well as fan-favorite cuts such as “Kitty Kat” and “Green Light.”

In an exclusive interview with Rated R&B, director Sophie Muller reflected on directing Bey’s video for “Deja Vu,” filmed in New Orleans. “I just never worked with anyone who wanted to shoot all day. Even then, she’s like, ‘Let’s do one more setup. I have one more outfit, let’s do it,’ and I was like, ‘We’ve already done 10.’ It’s like, ‘Let’s do one more, let’s do one more.’ She’s incredibly hard-working. She always wanted to improve and make it better, even more than me.”
Muller also directed the video for “Ring The Alarm,” inspired by the 1992 film Basic Instinct. “I think it’s interesting how when you have emotions that are flipping from one to the other, so we wanted to show that in the video. That video was just someone fluctuating from extreme emotions. I remember my very first idea I had for that video was how it opens with her doing that dance in the red light on a desk. No idea where I got that idea but I remember that I had this idea and that was it. Everything else grew from that.”
“Morning Dew” should tide over fans as they continue to anticipate the unannounced final installment of her album trilogy that began with 2022’s Renaissance.
