While Jennifer Hudson’s new single “I Can’t Describe (The Way I Feel)” warms up the Adult R&B Songs chart, the “Spotlight” artist heats up the January 2014 issue of ESSENCE as its cover girl.
Snugged tight in a teal green sweater and rocking fashionable jewelry, the American Idol alumna talked about her challenges of playing the role of iconic figures in movies – namely her latest role in Winnie Mandela.
“I was so nervous about doing a good job that I started working on the accent a couple of months before I even got there,” said Hudson.
Along with Hudson getting her South African Accent on point, she was faced with another challenge – leaving her son and finance behind to film in Africa. “”I was like, ‘Oh, my God—You want me to leave my baby and my man?“”
In addition to dishing on her preparations for her role in Winnie Mandela, Hudson tells why she next album will be her most expressive yet and her favorite track.
Hudson’s cover story will be available in its entirety on newstands December 6.
