Looking stunning in all-white attire, Jennifer Hudson accepted her prestigious ‘Favorite Humanitarian’ award at the 2014 People’s Choice Awards last night (Jan. 8).
The gleaming glow on Hudson’s face when receiving the accolades for her work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation confirmed her true humanitarian spirit. The Chicago native accepted the award with her sister Julia Hudson, who co-founded the organization with her in 2009.
“I want to start by saying what I said when I won an Oscar,” says Hudson at the beginning of her acceptance speech.
Reliving that moment, Hudson states, “Look at what God can do.”
She goes on to say this:
That’s what we want to instill in our children, if we can do it, you can do it, too. It’s one thing to be a celebrity and have so much of what we have, but it’s nothing compared to making a difference… Where we come from and who shot who, but we want to show that it’s starting at home. It’s starting in Chicago.
Before bringing her speech to a close, she dedicated the award to her family, which is the reason she started the organization. “We want to dedicate this to our mother because she said without family, you are nothing,” says the singer on behalf of her and her sister.
The Julian D. Gift Foundation is in honor of Hudson’s slain late nephew, Julian King. The Foundation’s mission is to find ways to provide a stable and positive environment and make experiences for kids to grow to become confident and happy adults and spread that positivity to their communities.
