Surprising fans with new music looks to be a growing trend. Super producer/singer Pharrell has announced the title and release date of his sophomore album. “G I R L,” the follow-up to Pharrell’s 2006 “In My Mind,” will release on Monday, March 3 via Columbia Records.
The ten-track collection will include his smash hit and Oscar-nominated single “Happy,” which has sold over 2.3 digital copies worldwide.
“When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind,” says Pharrell, who announced his deal with Columbia Records last December. “One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called G I R L. I hope you like it.”
Pharrell, who recently took home four Grammy awards (Producer of the Year, Album of the Year for Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, and Record of the Year as well as Best Pop Duo/Performance for Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”), will perform “Happy” at the BRIT Awards on Sunday, March 2. He’s also set to perform the feel-good tune at the 86th Annual Academy Awards.
