Underrated singer Bridget Kelly is ready to take her career to the next level. The “Street Dreamin'” songstress has confirmed that she has parted ways from her label Roc Nation, where she was signed for the past six years.
“Honestly we needed to part ways,” she told Rap-Up. “You outgrow situations sometimes. I still feel their love. They’re still people I confide in and people that I have a really strong personal relationship with, so in order to keep that intact we needed to just go our separate ways.”
Kelly’s departure comes as no surprise, though. While signed to the label, she experienced many mishaps such as Frank Ocean taking back a song he wrote for her called “Thinking About Forever,” no real success on the charts and her highly delayed debut album.
In an interview with Rated RnB, Kelly shared why her debut album kept getting pushed back.“We’ve had a lot of back and forth about what songs to put on the album,” said Kelly. “The promotion and marketing process…we haven’t over the course of the last five years put a lot of material out.”
Keeping her head held high Kelly is looking forward to becoming an independent artist. “It was scary at first but it’s liberating to know that I can just go in with whoever and put anything out that I want to and say what I want to,” she told Rap-Up.
Fans can expect Kelly’s debut album to drop some time in September. Earlier this month, she released two songs “I Won’t Cry” and “Almost More,” which will both appear on her album.
