Takema “Tiny” Harris and Kandi Burruss are now listed as writers for Ed Sheeran’s no. 1 single “Shape of You.”
The update to the credits comes after weeks of social media users comparing the similar melody between Sheeran’s song and TLC’s 1999 hit “No Scrubs,” which was co-written by Harris, Burruss and producer Kevin Briggs, who also earned credit.
According to fans on social media, the pre-chorus on “Shape of You” (“Boy, let’s not talk too much/ Grab on my waist and put that body on me”) shares a similar lyrical rhythm as the chorus on “No Scrubs” (“No, I don’t want no scrubs/ A scrub is a guy that can’t get no love from me”).
Both Burruss and Harris celebrated on social media. Burruss wrote on Instagram, “Congrats #edsheeran @teddysphotos for having the #1 album! & thank you for allowing @majorgirl & I to share in the success of #ShapeOfYou! #1 for 7 weeks! This is how I dance every time this song comes on. #ShapeOfYou #Blessings.”
“Shape of You” is Burruss’ third number-one single to be added to her résumé. In addition to “No Scrubs,” she also co-wrote Destiny’s Child’s hit song “Bills, Bills, Bills.” Meanwhile, “Shape of You” is Harris’ second single to reach the top spot.
