While SZA’s side chick anthem “The Weekend” continues to spread like wildfire, Malone makes a return with his anthem for side dudes. Appropriately titled “Side Nigga,” the midtempo number finds the Chicago native singing about being content with being boyfriend number two.
On the chorus, he sings, “Don’t mind being the side nigga / I’m fine with it / Give her what she can’t get at home / And when she feeling all alone / All she gotta do is hit my phone.”
Malone spoke exclusively with Rated R&B about his views on being a side piece. “‘Side N*gga’ is written from a different perspective than most would think by the title,” Malone exclusively tells Rated R&B. “I’m not at all glorifying breaking up a happy home but when the house ain’t a home and the door has been left wide open for you to walk in, whose at fault?”
He continues, “It was fun to not write and sing about a topi that’s all lovey dovey this time around. Let’s face it, society has made side pieces more acceptable these days.”
“Side Nigga” is expected to appear on Malone’s forthcoming project that is slated to release later this year on Write Is Right Music Group.
Last year, Malone released his buzz single “She Was There,” which was co-written by his mentor Avant.
