Last weekend, Sisqo co-hosted R&B Spotlight showcase at B.B. Kings in New York City. The R&B veteran sat down with ConcreteLoop for an exclusive interview where he discussed his new album Last Dragon, his thoughts on how the music industry has changed since the 90s, and more.

On new album

My new long-awaited album, [the] longest album I’ve taken to work on is called “Last Dragon”…It’s some artists that I worked with in the past that hopefully we can connect again. I actually was talking to DMX’s people not long ago. Hopefully we can connect those dots and maybe come out with a classic hit like we did before…I would love to work with some of the new artists but I’m not really chasing down any of the newer artists or the newer producers because I never have. If you actually go back into the history of myself and Dru Hill most of the time when our hits came out the song stood alone. Like ’til this day, people still don’t know who produced songs like “Beauty,” “How Deep,” and even our first single Tell Me.”

On how the music game has changed since the late 90s

Music changes rapidly pretty much every like every three months. I think the drastic change between the 90s and now, I think it’s more of a focus on the actual artist – which is a good thing in my personal opinion. A lot of classic artists that came out in the 90s or before that, some of them don’t really particularly care for the way the direction of music is going. And some of them like myself embrace it because not too long ago, I myself  was an artist that tried a lot of new things that was looked at…everybody was looking at me with the side-eye when I came out with my hair blond. Now everybody is dying their hair blond.

Sisqo also reveals his plans on releasing the first single from “Last Dragon” in August. The highly anticipated album is the follow-up to Sisqo’s album “Return of the Dragon” which was released nearly in 2001.
