Raheem DeVaughn: ‘I Think Kingship is Proven Over a Period of Time’

by Keithan Samuels

in Interviews

Rated R&B ran into Raheem DeVaughn at his Raheem DeVaughn & Friends Concert in Washington, D.C. last week. During our interview, DeVaughn chimed in on the King of R&B debate and shared his thoughts on what it really means to be a king of a genre.

“I think kingship is really proven over a period of time. And a lot of us, not even myself, have put in the work yet,” he said. “When you think about artists like Roy Ayers who have like 80 albums or people like Quincy Jones (and all the accolades). The real kings are the people that keep our careers thriving — my publicist, my manager, the fans — those are the real kings to me.”

He also talked about what he has in store for 2019, including his plans for the artists who are signed to his label DeVaughn Media Group.

Watch our interview with Raheem DeVaughn below.
