BJ The Chicago Kid has been laying low, but he’s back and wants to get “Close” on his winning version of Ella Mai’s eponymous album track.
Multiplying the number of runs and riffs, BJ’s expressive voice adds a mature complex to the impassioned record. He rightfully flips a few words to match his street edge and smooth persona.
Earlier this year, BJ gave H.E.R.’s hit single “Could’ve Been” a Southside makeover. Prior to that, he shared his EP The Opening Ceremony with the world, as he geared up for the release of his oft-delayed sophomore album. He shared details about his new album with us last summer while on tour with Ro James.
“The album is incredible. I’ve grown. I’ve evolved. Life has evolved for me. I’ve grown and seen the world with my label Motown Records. It’s been an incredible asset to add to the music. I just can’t wait to put it out the right way,” BJ shared exclusively with Rated R&B in May last year.
From the looks of a few recent Instagram posts, the follow up to BJ’s Grammy-nominated In My Mind album could be on the way very soon.
