BJ The Chicago Kid knows how to remix an original to make it his own — and this is no different. BJ released his Southside remix to “Could’ve Been,” featured on H.E.R.’s I Used To Know Her EP.
The Chi-Town crooner adds his own lyrics in place of Bryson Tiller, reminiscing on a hot night in New Orleans and broken promises. Following after his signature riffs, on the hook he sings, “Hell yeah I think about what / that 90s kinda love/ kinda like the new thang with the old thang but with its own swang.” The remix also features an interpolation of “Halfcrazy” by Musiq Soulchild.
BJ shared information with us about his album that was slated to be released last year, stating, “The album is incredible. I’ve grown. I’ve evolved. Life has evolved for me. I’ve grown and seen the world with my label Motown Records. It’s been an incredible asset to add to the music. I just can’t wait to put it out the right way.”
BJ has been keeping his fans at bay since he released his EP The Opening Ceremony May last year, so we’re hoping the new album is coming soon.
