Six deep albums and 15 years later, Lyfe Jennings is calling it quits after the release of his seventh album, 777.
Scheduled to drop on August 26, the album will include 16 songs that were selected over 100 recorded tracks. He enlisted some R&B/hip-hop friends for 777, including Tank, Boosie Bad Azz, Bobby V and Algebra Blessett, who both appear on two separate tracks.
Speaking on his departure from music and his upcoming album, Jennings says, “This is a task that requires soul-searching and the audacity to vocalize one’s mistakes. I believe I’ve done that, honestly, over the past decade. I just hope this last album finds you better off than the previous 6 before it.”
He continued, “I tried to keep my subject matter as even-toned as I could, but y’all know me lol, I’m deep as fu#@. I could write for days about the process, but this time the music did all the talking for me. The album was a day, in a forever, in a never.”
His latest radio single “Accusing Me” is already making an impact on urban adult contemporary radio, becoming the most added song on the format last week. The thought-provoking tune speaks to the insecurities of someone who’s been hurt before and now can’t trust their new partner.
