Today is a special day. It not only is the anniversary of Prince’s birth, who would have been 61, it’s also the exclusive two-week Tidal release of his new compilation album Originals.
Comprised of 15-songs selected by JAY Z and Troy Carter, the entertainment advisor of Prince’s estate, the latest collection contains 14 previously rare demos that were composed by Prince himself for his protégés the Time, Vanity 6, Sheila E., Apollonia 6, Jill Jones, the Family, and more.
Originals also includes Prince’s 1984 version of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which was later turned into a massive hit by Sinéad O’Connor in 1990.
As previously reported, Originals will stream on Tidal for two-weeks before transitioning to other digital and streaming platforms on June 21. Hard copies of the album will also go live via Warner Bro. Records.
On July 19, Originals will make its vinyl arrival, which will include two, 180-gram LPs. A limited edition deluxe CD and two LP formats will be available as well.
