After much anticipation, award-winning singer/songwriter Johntá Austin has released his debut album titled Love, Sex & Religion.
The nine-track LP is packed with luscious R&B vibes that music listeners will enjoy. Austin broke down the meaning of the album in an Instagram post.
“Love creates beauty and acceptance. Not anger. If something has to destroy or divide in order to exist, then it isn’t love,” he said. “Sex is existence. Without it, we never were and would never be. No other feeling rivals an orgasm. Religion wants to tell you that your feelings could get hurt, but why would I hurt your feelings. I just want to be your first.”
For the project, Austin enlisted his longtime collaborators Bryan-Michael Cox, Jermaine Dupri and Troy Taylor to assist with production. Taylor, who is Austin’s mentor and serves as co-executive producer, worked on the album’s lead single “Love Angel.”
When asked what he hopes his listeners take away from his album, Austin told Rated R&B, “I think that just love is love. It’s all connected. It all comes from the creator. The three themes in the title all come from the creator and all of them are beautiful in their own way. Everyone has their own feeling of love, their own connection to the creator and their own connection to sex. As long as it is pure, beautiful and you’re not hurting anybody, then this album is for you.”
Love, Sex & Religion includes guest appearances from R&B vocalists Bobbi Storm (“Born Again”) and Dondria (“Making Love To God”). R&B heartthrob Trey Songz co-wrote the latter record as well.
