Emerging singer-songwriter XO opens up about toxic relationships in the video for his latest single “Less Than Lovers.”
Directed by The Untitled Artist, the visual sees XO in a strained relationship with his love interest as the two constantly argue, but don’t seem to hear each other. The thrillingly-chic video draws inspiration from Jordan Peele’s 2017 horror Get Out.
Lyrically, XO discusses the fragile nature of his relationship describing their situation as “less than lovers, but more than friends.”
“We wanted to visually portray how a lack of communication can put a real strain on a relationship,” the UK-native told Rated R&B. He continued, “I also wanted to make sure there was an underlying narrative showing both sides of the coin when it comes to these things. I’m sure a lot of us can relate.”
“Less Than Lovers” is XO’s latest offering following the 2019’s Afrobeat jam “Shut It Down.” The singer-songwriter released his LP Those Who Wander in 2017.
