Teaming up with the media company Mic, Alicia Keys and the We Are Here Movement grabbed some of music and film’s biggest stars to create a powerful video on police brutality.
From Taraji P. Henson and Beyoncé to Chris Rock and Rihanna, stars got together to create “23 Ways You Could Be Killed If You Are Black in America,” highlighting everyday actions that made African-Americans in America victims of police violence. Victims like the recent Philando Castile and Alton Sterling are covered, and even Rekia Boyd and Sandra Bland are mentioned as well.
Keys closes the video with a call to action for others to get involved in ending injustice by visiting We Are Here Movement’s website.
“Go to WeAreHereMovement.com and tell President Obama and Congress that the time for change is now,” she said. “We demand radical transformation to heal the long history of systemic racism so that all Americans have the equal right to live and to pursue happiness.”
Keys is not new to the world of activism, having premiered a short film for World Refugee Day just last month.
