There’s much anticipation behind Brandy’s upcoming sixth studio album, which is a follow-up to her “Human” album released in 2008. The songstress recently sat down with Billboard.com to speak on her highly awaited album, slated to be released March 2012. During her interview, Brandy spoke about her new sound, featured producers, collaborating with Frank Ocean, and a tentative release.
The sound of the album
“What I’m truly excited about is how the album is all about R&B and figuring out the new sound of R&B, and that was the challenge for me. I wanted to do something different — I didn’t want to just sing about love over regular beats,” said Brandy.
Brandy’s untitled album will feature production by hit-makers such as Sean Garrett, Rico Love, Bangladesh, Timbaland and Jim Jonsin.
Collaborating with Frank Ocean
“We’ve always had that great chemistry, and we both understand music in the same ways,” Brandy says of Ocean. “To work with him on this album was great as well, and I hope I can get in [the studio] with him some more because his music is just so moving; I’m inspired by him. I think he’s a great artist and he hasn’t even touched on what he will touch on in the future.”
Album release
“We’re aiming for March, but I don’t know if March is going to be the actual time the album comes out,” said Brandy.
We’re excited about Brandy’s upcoming album. We know that she’s been working relentlessly on finding a new sound that her fans will enjoy. Last month, she leaked a track called “Silent Night,” which was just a treat for her fans. Although there is much anticipation behind her album, Brandy should know not to rush the process of putting together a great album. She’s made classic albums in the past, so we only expect another classic hit. Whatever she does, hopefully she does not hop on the Euro-pop bandwagon, like some of her colleagues.
