The 18th annual Essence Music Festival is coming soon.One of the most highly anticipated aspects of the event is the performances. Legendary singer and the newly engaged Aretha Franklin will headline the festival this year. Other top performers include Mary J. Blige, Fantasia, and Charlie Wilson.
“When you think about the opportunity to be there and experience Miss Aretha Franklin, performing for tens of thousands of her most avid fans, I just get chills,” said Michelle Ebanks, president of Essence Communications Inc. “To have Mary J. Blige return, she just owns that house like few others can. It will be exciting to see what she brings to the festival this year with her new music out. I’m expecting another memorable performance. Then there’s fan favorite Fantasia, who brings excitement, energy and passion to every show and, of course, Charlie Wilson, who is truly a showstopper.”
Other performers will include Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Dru Hill, Eric Roberson, Estelle, SWV, Fred Hammond, Keyshia Cole, Raheem DeVaughn, The Stylistics, and more.
The event will take place from July 6 – July 8 in New Orleans. As usual, the musical performances will be held at the Superdome and seminars with guest speakers will take place at the city’s convention center.
