This week’s Throwback Thursday selection is the Mary Jane Girls’ hit song “In My House,” written and produced by Rick James.The Mary Jane Girls (Jojo, Candi, Maxi, and Cheri) were the protégées of legendary singer Rick James. In 1985, the group released “In My House” as the lead single to their sophomore album “Only for You.”
The song was one of their most successful singles to date. “In My House” spent 22 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, peaking at #7; 22 weeks on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, peaking at #3; nine weeks on Billboard’s Hot Club Songs chart (formerly titled as Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart), peaking at #1.

Mary Jane Girls’ “Only For You,” released Feb. 13, 1985 via Motown Records, was certified gold by the RIAA by June 1985. Unfortunately, this was the group’s last album that was released.
