Today, music icon Janet Jackson turns 47 and we celebrate her birthday with this week’s Throwback Thursday song “Again” from her fifth studio album, Janet.
Produced by long-time collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the heartfelt ballad shows a softer side of Janet as she battles with her emotions to let an old love return, singing “I come from a place that hurts/and God knows how I’ve cried/and I never want to return/never fall again.”

:Again” was featured as the closing number of the blockbuster hit Poetic Justice and was nominated for a Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song. While it didn’t win, the song topped Billboard’s Hot 100 for two weeks and earned her a R&B/Hip-Hop Songs top ten hit.
With over 100 million records sold worldwide, countless No. 1 singles, and ranking No. 5 on Billboard’s “Top 50 R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of the Past 25 Years,” in 2010, Miss Jackson rightfully earns her place as one of greatest musical artist in history.
Happy Birthday, Janet!
