Roc Nation signee Elijah Blake is stepping out behind the scenes of songwriting into his own spotlight with his debut album. The title of the album, “Songs of Melody,” was recently announced on Billboard Sessions/
With songwriting success already under his belt from winning a Grammy for writing Usher’s “Climax,” Blake is ready to tackle the mainstream and show the world his artistry on a new level. He previously created a rave with his debut EP, “Bijoux 22,” and its track, “X.O.X.,” which is now the lead single for “Songs of Melody.”
“The album is called ‘Songs of Melody’ because all the songs are about one girl,” reveals Blake. “I couldn’t use her name, but melody is my strong point when I write songs so [with] the wordplay, melody can be about a girl or that feeling you get when you hear a great melody.”
“Songs of Melody” includes features from J. Cole, Big Sean and Common. Blake graced Billboard Sessions with a performance of “Drop Dead Beautiful,” a Perez-produced track from the new LP. With his dark shades and beanie hat, Blake soothingly croons his high melodies in the dim-lit acoustic performance.
According to Blake, “That song sums up the story of the album.” Blake explains deeper about the song and says, “Whether it was two years, two months or three years, you invested time and time is the most valuable thing on this earth.”
