Robin Thicke takes a different approach to music this time around with his new album, “Blurred Lines.” Thicke expands the realms of his creativity and thinks about more than just himself and his small fan base.
Thicke dishes out what to expect from his new album before it hits stores on July 30. He admits to personal shortcomings, which has made him reconsider the avenue that he has been taking on his musical path. Thicke boldly admits that he has been so accustomed to doing things ‘his’ way and may have been a bit egotistical when it came to the writing and production of his music. Now, he looks at the bigger picture and sees his potential to reach a larger fan base with a different take on music and a new list of contributions on his album.
“My last album didn’t sell very well, in fact, not at all,” admits the R&B singer. “I thought to myself, ‘Maybe I’m just selfish, want all the credit, want everybody to love me, know how great I am and all this BS.’ Then I realized, this time I’m not going to do it all on my own.”
With this new found epiphany, Thicke calls on some heavy hit-makers such as Will.i.am, Timbaland and Dr. Luke. He also collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on his forthcoming single, “Give it 2 U.” Not only is Thicke adding a roster of featured artists this go around, but he is also switching up gears to more fun, feel good music.
“I’ve written so many songs about my insecurities, my fears, my failures, my relationship problems, my personal issues, issues with God and the universe,” says the California native. “I think that’s why [with] this album I was like, ‘I don’t want to write about myself anymore. I just want to write stuff that makes people feel good.’”
Well, the saying, “you can’t do the same things expecting different results,” seems to hold true for the 36-year-old singer. Doing differently has definitely yielded better results as the single, “Blurred Lines,” continues to be the number hit in the U.S. and around the world.
