Last night (June 22), “R&B Diva” Syleena Johnson headlined her own concert at the historic Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C. Rocking curly hair and wearing a black jumpsuit and silver-studded heels, Johnson worked the stage for over an hour.
Johnson’s set was divided in three parts — normal performance, acoustic performance and impromptu performance. In the three parts, she was able to cover material from all five of her albums.
The 36-year-old singer managed to sing fan-favorites such as “Slowly,” “I Cut My Hair,” “Stone Wall,” “Guess What,” “I’m Your Woman,” “All Falls Down,” “Wild Horses,” “Tonight I’m Gonna Let Go,” “Time,” “Another Relationship,” among others. She even paid homage to Tina Turner, as she performed Turner’s hit song “Proud Mary” — yes, Johnson did the choreography as well!
Overall, Johnson’s performance was nothing short of amazing. She was very interactive with the crowd, especially during her impromptu performance, where she asked the audience to pick songs for her to sing. The audience really appreciated that segment of the show.
One thing’s for sure, Johnson deserves the title “R&B Diva,” as she delivered a stellar performance with beauty, sass, powerful vocals and great stage presence.
