“Yo Puff this that the knock right there boy!” As soon as those words hit the DJ’s speakers, you know it’s time to party! “You Remind Me,” is this week’s Throwback Thursday and comes from hip-hop soul queen, Mary J. Blige. After releasing the original version on the 1991’s “Strictly Business” soundtrack and later on her debut album, “What’s the 411?,” a remix emerged and became an instant block party anthem in the early 90’s.
“You Remind Me” was a first of its kind. It combined the elements of soul and hip-hop; and earned Blige the title of “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul.” The song shot Blige to the top of the Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart and landed Blige her first No.1 R&B song. It also scored her a Top 30 hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 and a Top 50 hit in the UK.
We promise when the summer heat rolls-in and the cookouts/family reunions begin, play “You Remind Me.” It’s sure to have everyone dancing.
