Controversy and publicly expressed displeasure from some of Marvin Gaye’s family members did not stop production of a biopic depicting the icon’s life and career.
A four-minute teaser clip for “Sexual Healing,” directed by Julien Temple, just surfaced online, readying music fans for the highly anticipated film.
Several notable actors and actresses will help Temple tell the chronicles of Marvin Gaye during the 1980s. Law & Order’s own Jesse L. Martin and S. Epatha Merkerson star in the film. Martin, who replaced Lenny Kravitz, plays the role of the icon, while Merkerson will portray Alberta Cooper Gay, Marvin Gaye’s mother.
While the project was still in its progression stage, the legend’s ex-wife Janis Gaye told the New York Daily News that “Sexual Healing,” along with the similar theater production, “My Brother Marvin,” by Gaye’s sister Zeola Gaye, is the “last thing” Marvin Gaye would want.
The biopic’s next year release will coincide with the 30th anniversary Marvin Gaye’s demise on April 1.
