It’s been a minute since we’ve brought you Throwback Thursday. Nevertheless, we are back with a brand new installment and this month we are recognizing strong ballads by R&B male singers.
Anthony Hamilton kicks off this week’s Throwback Thursday with his 2004 hit “Charlene.” Lifted from his second studio album “Comin’ from Where I’m From,” the heartfelt track finds Hamilton reading a letter from his lover who is tired of waiting for her superstar husband to come home again. He realizes his mistakes and makes his plea to do better if she were to come back into his life.
The song “Charlene” became an instant classic for the R&B crooner, becoming No.19 on Billboard’s Hot 100 along with No.3 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It was nominated for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2005 Grammy Awards. While he didn’t win, “Charlene” remains a timeless tune from Hamilton.
