Every Throwback Thursday during the month of September focused on theme of strong ballads by male R&B singers. To conclude the series of ballads, we picked Brian McKnight’s “Back at One” the title track from his 1999 album.
The piano driven tune finds McKnight professing his love to his special woman with five easy steps: “One… you’re like a dream come true/Two… just wanna be with you/Three… girl it’s plain to see… that your the only one for me/Four… repeat steps one through three/Five… make you fall in love with me.” He reassured her if he feels he has completed all those steps, he will start all over again – some type of love, right?
The song became a big hit for the R&B crooner in the US and internationally. In the US, it peaked at No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100 along with reaching No.7 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks.
As far as worldwide success, “Back at One” reached No.4 on the Canadian Hot 100 while it notched him the No.7 spot in New Zealand among others.
The New York native currently has an album in stores and online titled “More Than Words.”
