Mary J. Blige recently visited Tavis Smiley to promote her new album “A Mary Christmas.”
During her interview, Blige talked about why she wanted her first holiday album to be a masterpiece. She went on to telling Smiley how she snagged Barbara Streisand for her Christmas album.
Blige says it was through David Foster’s relationship that she and Streisand did a duet on “Wish Upon A Star. “So when David asked me I was like ‘Why not, why would I not do that” said Blige.
The conversation got deeper when Smiley asked Blige if has every been intimated to record with another artist. However, Blige’s answer didn’t come as a surprise.
“I’m not intimidated by any singers at all,” said Blige. “Because I’m not trying to do what you do cause I can’t do what you do. I can only do what Mary J.Blige can do and that relaxes me right there. It gets me out the competition.”
Later in the interview, the “I Am” artist touched on her role in “Black Nativity,” being her worst critic and much more.
