As 2014 quickly approaches, ESSENCE announces Emeli Sandé will be honored at its fifth annual Black Women in Music event. The celebration will be held during GRAMMY week on January 22 in Los Angeles and attendees will be treated by a special performance from the “Our Versions of Events” songstress and others musical guests.
“What a privilege to have received the news that I will be part of celebrating powerful, strong, creative women in the music industry today.” said the British songbird. “I am honored to have been selected by ESSENCE magazine and look forward to an evening of empowerment.”
The ESSENCE president, Michelle Ebanks, praises Sandé for her songwriting talents and believes she has much more to accomplish. “Emeli is a global, multi-faceted artist, extraordinary storyteller and a bold and beautiful collaborator whose future is extremely bright. She follows in the tradition of what Essence has always done: supporting artists who are doing incredible things.”
Sandé’s in good company as musical artists Mary J. Blige, Kelly Rowland, Janelle Monaé, Solange Knowles, and other extraordinary women of color have received this great honor.
