The theme of January’s Throwback Thursdays is R&B Groups from the 90s/00s. This week’s feature is of popular 90’s R&B quartet Jodeci. “Cry For You” by Jodeci was the lead single off their sophomore album 1993’s “Diary of a Mad Band.”
The group was comprised of brothers Cedric & Joel Hailey (K-Ci & Jo Jo) and Donald & Dalvin DeGrate; the name JoDeCi was a combination of their names. “Cry For You” was penned by founding group member DeVante Swing (real name Donald DeGrate) and the song was the No. 1 R&B single for four weeks in 1994. “Diary of a Mad Band” also features singles “Feenin” and “What About Us”.
Fun Fact: The song was later covered on a 1994 episode of The Mickey Mouse Club by *NSYNC members Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez, Ryan Gosling, and Dale Godboldo III. Watch the young crooners sing their hearts out below.
