Def Jam artist Jhené Aiko has started grabbing the attention of listeners on urban radio with her latest single “The Worst” off her “Sail Out” EP. Now, less than a month since the Fisticuffs-produced cut entered the chart (Jan. 17) has reached the top 20 at No. 20.
The breakout record has garnered nearly 1,180 radio spins since its debut at No. 49, starting with 248 radio spins. This marks Aiko’s first top 20 single on urban radio as a lead artist. Aiko scored a top 20 hit before “The Worst” on Big Sean’s single “Beware” with Lil’ Wayne. Their collaborative effort peaked at No.15 and totals 1,638 radio spins to date.
Last month, Aiko revealed to VIBE magazine her debut album “Souled Out,” which will release this May. She describes it in the same direction as her debut EP.
“With the album, it’s definitely going be more songs in that same vein of me just really not second-guessing what I’m saying,” she said. “Not a lot of actual writing on paper but me just going into the studio and just like saying how I feel.”
Her “Sail Out” EP now stands at No. 5 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart.
