2014 is shaping up to be another Year of Pharrell Williams as the producer/singer/songwriter tops the Billboard charts with his Oscar-nominated song “Happy.”
Williams’ feel-good anthem reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week, an accomplishment last seen by Eminem’s Academy Award winning song, “Lose Yourself” back in 2001. In an interview with Billboard, the “Frontin” singer spoke modestly about the incredible success of “Happy.”
“What the world has done with this song is not my doing,” he said. “I’m honored to have this experience and am so thankful that I was pushed (by the filmmakers). All the sharing and requesting and downloads? That’s incredible.”
Last month, Williams won four Grammy Awards for Producer of the Year, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
“Happy” is nominated for the prestigious Oscar for Best Original Song at the upcoming Academy Awards. Tune into the 86th Academy Awards live on March 2 on ABC.
