Elle Varner reminds us of the darker side to love on her new song “Cold Case,” which samples the Quincy Jones-composed “Ironside” theme song.
Varner begins the bass-driven track with a sweet message about love. “Love is such a beautiful thing, so f*cking beautiful/Especially in the beginning when everyone is so happy and so honest and so real and loving and affectionate…” Varner’s words begin to slur at the end before the beat drops (lawd, that just gave us life!).
Varner then sings about investigating a “Cold Case,” which involves her man acting brand new. She’s determined to crack this case even if it involves her not getting any rest.”My eyes and ears are open wide/Take my time but I’m gonna you find you/Answer to this mystery/You ain’t heard the last of me,” Varner coos.
Varner recently released her buzz single “Rover” featuring Wale. The RCA Records artist is working on her sophomore album, “Four Letter Word,” which is coming soon.
