Before Keyshia Cole announced that she was done with interviews earlier this week, the Oakland native participated in a Q&A session with music channel F– USE TV.
F– USE posed many questions to the “Rick James” singer to find out more about her sixth studio album, potentially taking the independent route after this project and her biopic that is in the works.
After having three consecutive albums with female duets, Cole isn’t choosing to go that route this time. “Maybe we’ll do a remix or something with a female,” she said. “We can always explore those options. I thought about that, but as far as just being on the album, no.” She confirms collaborating with producers she’s never worked with such as Mike WiLL Made It and DJ Mustard. She also says she has more sexy songs (“She”) on the album than she’s ever recorded before.
Cole has mentioned in previous interviews that this album will be her last one distributed through her long-time label home Interscope Records. When asked if she would consider pursuing the independent route in lieu of another major label, she replied “I would love to, actually.”
Finally, the “I Changed My Mind” singer mentions an upcoming biopic following her Interscope departure. “We’ve been working on it for a very long time,” she stated. “We already have the script for the movie and we’re just putting all the pieces together. This is my last album on Interscope, so…that movie is going to follow for sure.”
Keysh announced Tuesday (March 25) via Twitter that her next album will be titled “Point of No Return.” Fans can expect it to be released this August.
