R&B newcomer Maryland Lavon is making her mark as a solo artist with her latest cover: a mashup of Jhene Aiko’s songs”From Time/The Worst.”
True to her name, Lavon is a Maryland native and was signed to Mary J. Blige’s Matriarch label at age 19 as a member of R&B girl group Just’us. After the group disbanded, Maryland continued her solo career as an independent artist and she has generated buzz after releasing her cover of Rico Love’s single “They Don’t Know.”
Lavon cites Janet Jackson and Aaliyah as her musical influences. She is working on a EP that will be out in late summer and has worked with Donnell Shawn, who has worked with Mary J. Blige (“Irreversible”), Marcus Canty (“Three Words), and Boyz II Men (“Flow”).
