It has been ten years since Teedra Moses dropped her debut album “Complex Simplicity.” Now, the R&B songstress is back on the music scene with her new single, “All I Ever Wanted.”
To get herself back on the R&B radar of music fans, the “Backstroke” singer sat down with Reginald Larkin of Bleu Magazine to chat about her relationship with Maybach Music, being 100 percent authentic with her artistry, and what fans can expect with her next album.
Read a few excerpts from the interview below.
On her relationship with Rick Ross/MMG:
“It’s really just an affiliation. He respects what I do and I respect what he does. I never signed a deal with them. It’s good to be aligned with people that are doing really well in this business.”
Her approach to songwriting:
“My point of view in writing is normally not as R&B. I try to write from the point of view of a rap record. It’s not all super lovey dovey. I try to approach the subject matter [in a] realistic [way].”
On her artistry:
“When I go onstage I’m 100 percent myself. When I write a record I’m 100 percent myself [and] hopefully somebody can relate to that. You either get into it or you don’t.”
On her new music:
“There’s an EP that’s coming [with] all original music, mixed and mastered, called “Cognac and Conversations.” I don’t want to put out an album that people don’t want to hear. When I give you “The Lioness” I want [someone] to be sitting up waiting for it.”
Watch Moses keep it all the way real and even discuss not being a smart businesswoman below.
