Mariah Carey has been working on her 14th studio album since 2010. In between that time, the R&B veteran has released a few singles and even announced a release date. However, due to the lack of interest in the material she has released lately, it has forced her to go back to the drawing board to create music people want to hear and want to invest in.
The “Touch My Body” songstress is featured on Billboard magazine’s latest issue, which hits newsstands on Monday, April 28. In her cover story, the R&B diva hints at taking a surprise approach for her highly awaited album, reveals album collaborators, admits to failed singles and much more.
Carey’s 14th studio album, previously titled “The Art Of Letting Go,” will feature collaborations from top producers including Rodney Jerkins, Jermaine Dupri, Hit-Boy and Mike WiLL Made It. It will also include guest appearances from Wale, Nas and Trey Songz (“Eternal”).

Although Carey is aware of failed singles, she is more concerned about her album as a whole. “You would think I would be all about the singles-driven situation, and I am in a way, but with this particular album I want my fans to hear it as a body of work,” she says. “This is my life since we last left off. Just picture a dot dot dot, and then here’s the album.”
Despite an album release date being announced for Carey’s new project (May 6), no one knows when she will release it because she wants it to be a surprise. Carey says that she will announce her new album’s title, track listing, artwork and music all at once. “I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title,” Carey says, noting that the album takes its name from a “personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life.”
