Soul singer Goapele makes us all want to dance with her new single “Hey Boy.”
The disco inspired track, co-written by Estelle, is a little different than Goapele’s previously released music. “I wanted to do my version of an uptempo song this time around—something fun to perform and dance to,” Goapele told Essence.com.
“Hey Boy” is the first single off Goapele’s forthcoming album “Strong As Glass,” which will be released via Eric Benet’s label Jordan House Records.
Goapele hints that “Hey Boy” is a preview of what we can expect on her fifth studio album. “[It’s] full of surprises and I hope my fans will enjoy this musical journey with me,” she said. “I sung my heart out on this project and I got to work with producers & writers that pushed me as an artist.”
In a past interview, Benet hinted that Goapele wanted to step outside of her comfort zone with her next project. “Goapele is a dope blend of eclectic soulful, alternative; Oakland, California kind of soulful thing,” he said. “She wants to do that again, but she also wants to try some new things. So, I think for every artist, it’s all about look let’s look at your body of work and let’s look at what we’re trying to do here.”
