Although she released her sophomore album last fall (Sep. 3, 2013), Tamar Braxton has already begun working on her follow-up.
In an interview with Billboard, Braxton confirms that she has started writing songs for her next album. “We’ve actually started recording some (songs) already, and I’m really excited about it,” Braxton says. “I’ve written about maybe 10 or 12 song, and I really, really love four of them. I have a set-up on my (tour) bus, and if I come up with ideas I just write them right there. We’re right in the beginning stages of it, but I’m really enjoying the material we’re starting to do.”
Braxton explains that she writes her songs based on her current state of mind. Right now she’s in a happy space, yet sometimes overwhelmed. “Right now I’m in a place where I’m really happy, and sometimes I’m overwhelmed, but at the end of the day I’m just trying to balance it all and understand myself as a woman,” she explains. “So those are the songs I’m writing right now, but I can’t say whether that’s going to be the end result.”
Since Braxton is still in the beginning states of creating her album, she hasn’t recruited any producers just yet. However, she hopes to collaborate with Pharrell Williams.
Braxton is currently traveling the country for her “Love and War Tour.” She hopes to focus all of her energy on her new album once she completes her tour and her Essence Music Festival performance.
Braxton’s critically acclaimed “Love and War’ album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The album earned her three Grammy nominations (Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song and Best Urban Contemporary Album).
