Singer Tinashe talks to Rap-Up TV about her debut album “Aquarius,” collaborations and musical influences.
With mixtapes and previous music already on the airwaves, Tinashe finally gets ready to release her full-length debut album. Rightfully titled “Aquarius,” the singer says she wanted to make a debut that introduced her to the world and shows who she really is.
“I really want people to feel like they really need to explore more into who I am as an artist and just who I am as a person in general,” says the 21-year-old. “So, I think ‘Aquarius’ kind of embodies metaphorically who I am.”
In the almost four minute clip, she reveals that fans can expect the album to “have a lot of the essence of the mixtape and the stuff that [she] put out previously.” Working with producers like Mike WiLL Made It, DJ Mustard and Boi-1da, the singer will also have some new sounds that you might haven’t heard from the singer previously.
For example, Tinashe revealed that her collaboration on the album with A$AP Rocky, “Pretend,” is a contemporary-sounding record that doesn’t sound like anything on the radio. Another confirmed collaboration she discloses is with Future on a record that blends R&B and Hip-Hop. The 90s baby reports that she’s influenced by a lot of 90s music from artists such as Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Keith Sweat and Sadé.
