Earlier this month, Trey Songz released the tracklist for his forthcoming sixth studio album “Trigga,” which only featured guest appearances from Justin Bieber, Mila J, Ty Dolla $ign and Juicy J. However, the “Na Na” singer has tweaked the tracklist and has added a former collaborator to his new project’s roster.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Songz revealed that Nicki Minaj — who he collaborated on his hit single “Bottoms Up” — will now appear on “Touchin, Lovin.” He praised the Queens rappers’ verse on the upcoming track. “She talking crazy. She killed it,” he said. Songz told Billboard that he admires her hustle in the music industry. “I’m so proud of her,” he said. “[To] just to see her evolve into what she is now. She’s so smart and intelligent to have masterminded the whole Nicki Minaj rise to where she is… to have become a pop star.”
Following him dishing on the Nicki collaboration, Billboard questioned would there be a future joint effort between him and Drake. The two worked together on “I Invented Sex” and “Unusual,” among other tracks.
“We’ve talked [about] doing a gang of songs together. When Drake and I had so many songs together, it was in a point in our careers where we were both waiting for that moment where we would both take off,” he said. While the two aren’t as close as before, Songz believes that anything is possible in the future.
“I think there will be a time when we make music together just as we did before,” he said. “But right now it’s just two men on their own mission to plant their own imprint on the world.”
While his new album hasn’t arrived yet, the R&B crooner revealed that the last four songs on the deluxe edition of “Trigga” maps out the next album’s direction. “It’s like a piece of this concept. If there’s Trigga, there has to be Tremaine.” [It’s] Tremaine.”
Trey’s latest radio singles “SmartPhones” and “What’s Best For You” are making their rounds on urban and urban ac radio.
