Budding artist Emanny is on his way to making an even bigger name for himself in the music industry.
Like many singers, they come from musically inclined families. During his early teenage years, Emanny took his musical surroundings from home to the Boys Choir of Harlem. From there, he met members of the choir, who would later form the group DyNaste. While in the group, the New York-bred artist was the lead singer and penned the songs for the group.
Although the group split, Emanny’s desire to sing and create music still lived inside him. Over the next few years, he worked behind the scenes with some of the best in music. From legend Patti LaBelle and veteran Tank to rappers Joe Budden and Jadakiss, it proved that Emanny wasn’t afraid to tackle the genres of hip-hop and R&B.
After being the shadows of other big name artists, Emanny hopes that those early experiences will prove to be useful as he pursues his solo career.
Today, the multitalented star releases Songs About Her 2, an 11-track EP that serves as the sequel to his 2013 project Songs About Her.
To celebrate the arrival of his new music, Rated R&B featured Emanny as our Rated Next Artist of the Month and chatted with him about his new project, his single “Ya Sex,” and his future.
At what moment in your life did you know and decide that you wanted to pursue music professionally?
It was very early. I can remember as far back as elementary school when I would find any place to sing and perform. It really hit me once I got to high school and started learning more musically.
Has being from New York had any influence on your music?
Definitely! You can hear it in the language and the words I use.
Tell us about your new single “Ya Sex.” What inspired that track?
A: It’s definitely one of my favorite songs on the album. It’s produced by Remo The Hitmaker and has a great R&B vibe. The track was inspired by me being on the road and missing someone. I wanted to take that thought, play and grow on it. The song is deeper than just missing someone’s sex though. Sex is merely a replacement for the word “Love”.
Q: Your new EP Songs About Her 2 is out now. What type of songs can we expect on your project? Who did you work with (producers, songwriters, artists, etc.)?
It’s R&B! You will hear the album and not be confused on the sound I was creating or what genre It should fall into. These days, R&B artists almost land in the hip-hop genre. This isn’t to be categorized as anything more than R&B. The album has production from Karon Graham, Remo The Hitmaker, The Nukes Muzik. Drocc, The Coalition and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League.
Who are you referring to in the title Songs About Her 2?
Every girl I’ve ever dealt with that taught me something within our dealings. People assume the projects have been about a singular woman, but the songs all speak on different women who played a part in who I am now when it comes to love and relationships
What else do you have coming up?
I plan on dropping another project at the top of 2015 and touring. I want people to hear and see these songs come to life on the stage.
