After an extended wait, Maxwell has finally released his brand new single, “Lake By the Ocean.” The music veteran premiered the track during his live Q&A on Facebook on Thursday night.
The smooth tune is the first offering from the second installment of his blackSUMMERS’night trilogy, which will be released on July 1.
When asked about the concept of “Lake By the Ocean,” Maxwell said, “The song represents falling in love after a very tough trial period in life and finding contentment in the smallest things next to the biggest things.”
He continued, “So, being able to be content in a lake when you have an entire ocean near you is, for me, the epitome of true happiness — that you don’t really need more; that you have more within the person that you’re sharing whatever that experience is.”
The second installment of blackSUMMERS’night follows 2009’s BLACKsummers’night. The number one album earned Maxwell two Grammys: Best R&B Album and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance (“Pretty Wings“).
