Following the tragedy in Orlando, Victoria Monét was there to deliver the somber song “Better Days” to help those struggling to cope with the disaster. Now the singer is back, and with the help of pop star Ariana Grande, with a new version of the song that tackles the racism and injustice happening in the U.S.
“I’m heartbroken by all of the recent tragedies the came as a result of hatred, racism and injustice,” Monét wrote on Soundcloud. “I’m also sad at how numb some of us are to it, because it is far too common! This is not a video game or a movie you’re witnessing on your screens! This is our unfortunate REALITY! When I think about how I feel, the word confused comes to mind…So today we just want to try and help in one of the ways we know how!”
She adds, “#BlackLivesMatter To all of the lives taken pointlessly, we will not let you be forgotten. You have sparked change in this world with your angel wings. Rest In Peace.”
With the somber, floaty production from Flip, Monét and Grande trade runs and harmonize among the chorus, showing that there just might be better days on the horizon. Grande also receives her spot to shine on the song, getting a chance to be a little more political.
“How’re we gonna stop violence, stop the hurting / Stop the hatred, stop the murders / We’re all humans, that’s for certain / Come together, we deserve it.”
Victoria Monét is currently on tour with the Fifth Harmony for the summer.
