K. Michelle lends her voice to the The Birth of a Nation soundtrack with an empowering track titled “Forward.”
On the inspirational tune, K. Michelle sings, “At the end of every desert, there’s an ocean / I believe at the end of every night you find a sun / There’s a life for every reason, and my life is no different from yours / At the end of every desert, there’s an ocean.”
The Birth of a Nation: The Inspired By Album is available now. It features appearances from Ne-Yo, Anthony Hamilton, Leon Bridges, Trey Songz, as well as a host of rappers.
Set against the antebellum South, The Birth of a Nation follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.
It will hit theaters on October 7.
