It’s been a little while since we’ve heard from Ne-Yo but he’s back with a piano-driven ballad titled “Queen,” lifted from The Birth of a Nation soundtrack.
On the smooth tune, Ne-Yo serenades a woman he’s met for the first time. Since he doesn’t know her name just yet, he asks if he can call her queen.
“So I’m pleased to make your acquaintance / I’m not sure what your name is / But if I had to guess based off what I’ve seen / May I call you Queen?,” he sings.
The Birth of a Nation: The Inspired By Album is available now. It features appearances from K. Michelle, Anthony Hamilton, Leon Bridges, Trey Songz, as well as a host of rappers.
Set against the antebellum South, The Birth of a Nation follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.
It will hit theaters on October 7.
